Community Policing

In Cass County, both the Community Policing Deputy and the School Resource Officer (SRO) play vital roles in ensuring the safety and well-being of students while fostering strong relationships between law enforcement and the community.

The Community Policing Deputy is dedicated to educating the youth of Cass County through the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) programs. By teaching these programs to 5th, 6th, and 8th graders across six schools, the deputy impacts approximately 525 students annually. Through engaging, interactive lessons and real-life discussions, the deputy equips students with essential skills to resist drugs, gangs, and violence, empowering them to make informed, positive choices. This program not only helps protect the students but also strengthens the bond between law enforcement and the community.

The School Resource Officer (SRO) is equally crucial, serving as a security presence and a trusted resource within the schools. The SRO is responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment by building positive relationships with students, staff, and families. They work closely with school administrators and teachers to address and prevent issues like bullying, substance abuse, and violence. The SRO also actively participates in school activities and safety education programs. By being a proactive and approachable figure, the SRO helps create a nurturing atmosphere that allows students to thrive academically and personally in a secure setting.

Together, these deputies ensure that the educational experience in Cass County is safe, supportive, and enriching for all students.
