One Vehicle Injury Accident 202nd St, Eagle
08/26/2021
Cass County Sheriff, William C Brueggemann advised that on the Wednesday 8-25-21 at 8:02 p.m. Cass County Deputies and Eagle Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a car on fire on 202nd street just south of Adams Street north of Eagle.
First responders arrived on scene to find a Honda Civic fully engulfed in a corn field just east of the roadway. Witnesses stated that they had arrived on scene to find the car beginning to catch fire. The driver, a 15 year old female from Lincoln, had escaped the vehicle, but her younger sister, a 12 year old Lincoln female, was trapped in the vehicle by her seatbelt. Thanks to the quick actions of the witnesses Ann Landerfield 63 of Eagle and Albert Hesterman 66 of Eagle the seatbelt was able to be cut and the young female was freed from the flaming car.
Parents were contacted and the juveniles were transported by Eagle Rescue to St. Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries. At this time it is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling northbound on 202nd street causing the vehicle to swerve into the western ditch. The driver then overcorrected resulting in the vehicle careening into the eastern ditch where it rolled into the corn field and caught fire. It is not believed that drugs or alcohol played a role in this incident.
