On September 22, 2021, Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann announces that John J. Zarkowski (72) of Buccaneer Bay, Plattsmouth, NE was located in his 2018 Chevy Tahoe in the Missouri River.  On September 4, 2021, a family member reported John was missing from his house and was reported to be driving his Tahoe.       Late, on September 20, 2021, a Zarkowski family member contacted Adventures With Purpose (AWP) who happened to be in Omaha.  AWP is a company that travels the U.S., free of charge, assisting families and law enforcement with finding missing loved ones under water.  On September 21, 2021, AWP and Cass County investigators searched numerous waterways in Cass County and Bellevue, NE.  At around sunset, AWP located the Tahoe about 520 yards south of the Plattsmouth boat dock and about 30 feet off the river bank utilizing their specialized sonar system.  

    On September 22, 2021 the operation continued.  Additional dive teams from Omaha Fire Department and Yutan responded to assist in the recovery.  The city of Plattsmouth provided a bulldozer and operator to clear a path and make a safe work zone for Neff Towing.  Plattsmouth Fire and Rescue provided support and boats to aid in the operation.  A little after 1:00p.m., the Tahoe was pulled out of the river and John was still inside.  An Omaha Funeral Home responded and transported John to the funeral home per the family's request. 

     The Sheriff's Office would like thank AWP, the dive teams from Omaha Fire Department and Yutan, The city of Plattsmouth, Plattsmouth Fire and Rescue, and Neff Towing out of Omaha in getting answers for John's family so they can start the healing process.
