Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorenson advised that on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 1420 hours, Cass County Deputies received a vehicle theft report on Oak Street in Louisville. The investigation revealed that the victim was talking to Angela Gillespie from Omaha. Gillespie then got into the victim's vehicle, which had the keys in it, and drove away. Gillespie was reported to have been heading eastbound on Hwy. 66 towards Plattsmouth.
Deputies received information that the stolen 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac was observed to be stopped in the area of Hwy. 1 and 160th Street, outside of Manley. A deputy contacted Gillespie, who exited the vehicle and was non-compliant. Gillespie re-entered the vehicle, locking the doors. The deputy attempted to gain access to the vehicle by breaking a window, sustaining a severe laceration to the arm from the broken glass. Gillespie then began struggling with deputies and Cass County Emergency Management personnel. During the struggle, another deputy deployed a Taser. Gillespie was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle resulted in marijuana and methamphetamine being located.
Gillespie was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Propelled Vehicle, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, Assault on a Peace Officer, Assault on a Health Care Worker, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The deputy was taken to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha by Weeping Water Rescue for the laceration and has since been discharged.
