Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorenson advised that on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at approximately 14:45 hours, Cass County Deputies, Cass County Medics, Weeping Water Fire and Rescue, Manley Fire, and Avoca Fire responded to the rural intersection of 144th and McKelvie for a single-vehicle accident. An investigation revealed that a tan Chevrolet Equinox driven by 65-year-old Weeping Water resident Leann Burger was approaching the intersection of 144th and McKelvie Rd. when a silver 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 42-year-old Weeping Water resident Colt Beetison, was eastbound on McKelvie and failed to stop at the stop sign. Burger took evasive action to avoid the collision and went into the northeast ditch at the intersection, where her vehicle came to rest on its side. Burger was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Seatbelts were in use and alcohol was not a factor. Beetison was issued a citation for failure to stop for the stop sign.
