Car- Motor Cycle Fatality Accident Hwy 75

Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorenson reported that on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 4:05 p.m., Cass County Deputies, along with Murray Fire & Rescue and Cass County Paramedics, responded to a two-vehicle fatality accident on U.S. Hwy. 34 / 75, South of Kenosha Rd.
Shelly Hayes, 55, of Omaha, was southbound on Hwy. 34 / 75 in a 2015 GMC Terrain when she attempted to turn east into a driveway at 4815 Hwy. 75. Hayes turned into the path of a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Zachariah Unruh, 30, of Auburn. Unruh's motorcycle struck the front driver's side corner of Hayes' vehicle, and he was ejected, landing in the east ditch. Unruh was pronounced dead at the scene. No occupants of Hayes' vehicle were injured. Unruh was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Hwy. 34 / 75 was shut down for approximately 3 1/2 hours. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The Nebraska State Patrol provided investigative assistance, and the Cass County Sheriff's Office collected data to begin reconstructing the accident. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending.
