Suspicious Activity Leads to Arrest

Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorenson advised that on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 0106 hrs. Cass County Deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity in the area of 29818 E. Park Hwy. While en route, the 911 Communications Center provided a description of the suspect observed on private property. A Cass County Sergeant observed a party matching the description walking eastbound on E. Park Hwy. near Round the Bend Steakhouse. The sergeant made contact with the individual, identified as Christian J. Reinke (26, of Deshler). Reinke advised his vehicle had broken down. Reinke's vehicle was located by another Cass County Deputy on the I-80 eastbound 426 off-ramp. The sergeant offered to give Reinke a ride, who accepted. The sergeant patted Reinke down for weapons prior to letting him in the car. The sergeant located a loaded handgun on Reinke. Reinke is a convicted felon and was placed under arrest without incident. The firearm was also found to be stolen out of Jefferson County. The other occupant, Benjamin Abney (30, of Omaha) was also arrested for Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of Burglar tools. Reinke and Abney are suspects in numerous thefts and burglaries in Jefferson County. Charges are pending in that jurisdiction. Reinke and Abney are both currently lodged in the Cass County Jail.
