On Monday, February 17, 2025, at approximately 9:27 AM, Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), Ashland Fire & Rescue, Cass County Sheriff's deputies, and Greenwood Fire & Rescue responded to overlapping motor vehicle accidents involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 80 eastbound near Mile Marker 423.6. An NSP trooper who responded to the scene was fatally injured. Another driver was transported to the hospital with head and neck injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
