PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST

Complete the form below to submit a Public Records Request to the Cass County Sheriff's Office and/or the Plattsmouth Police Department.

To facilitate the processing of your request, provide sufficient details to identify the specific records you are seeking. Please be advised that the Cass County Sheriff's Office and the Plattsmouth Police Department are not required to create new records or documents, nor to complete forms to satisfy a Public Records Request. Should your request incur a fee, you will be notified via email.

It is important to note that in accordance with Nebraska Law, written requests for information will be processed within four (4) business days. In the event that a request is extensive or challenging to process within this timeframe, the Cass County Sheriff's Office or the Plattsmouth Police Department will furnish you with a written explanation, a good faith estimate of the completion date, and an estimated charge for the requested records. Subsequently, you will have the opportunity to modify or prioritize your request. Moreover, please be aware that if your request pertains to a pending criminal case or falls under a specific exemption, it may be subject to denial. If any portion of your request is denied, a reason for denial will be provided to you.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office and the Plattsmouth Police Department impose fees for records requests that require more than four (4) hours of research. Public records are charged at a rate of $24.00 per hour for Administrative Support Staff's time, with billing calculated every 15 minutes. Additional fees may apply based on the specific type of record requested. Payment will be required before providing the requested records documents.

Requests directed to the Cass County Sheriff's Office will be evaluated by the Cass County Sheriff and the Cass County Attorney. In contrast, requests for the Plattsmouth Police Department will be reviewed by the Chief of Police.

Public records are documents or pieces of information that are not considered confidential and generally pertain to the conduct of the government.
